Millennials, Accountability and Spirituality

Every generation is unique and known for different things. They are remembered for their accomplishments, major events, and styles of their time. Millennials, who are now either teens or adults, are making a name for themselves. Growing up in a time of great technology advancements defiantly has its pros, but it also has repercussions. In my opinion, Millennials do not possess the same level of accountability and spirituality as older generations.
A big issue with Millennials today is that they are simply the least religious generation in America yet. Many of them will say that they are "religious" and "spiritual", but the research results prove otherwise. One study showed that "Millennials are significantly more unaffiliated than members of Generation X were at a comparable point in their life cycle (20% in the late 1990s) and twice as unaffiliated as Baby Boomers were as young adults (13% in the late 1970s)" (PewReligion 1). Religion is becoming less "important" in the lives of people in the younger generations. Identifying with Christianity or being affiliated with religious traditions is becoming less and less common.
Why is it that Millennials are so unaffiliated? It is because many of them are abandoning the religion that their parents raised them up in without finding a new one. "In total, nearly one-in-five adults under age 30 (18%) say they were raised in a religion but are now unaffiliated with any particular faith" (PewReligion 4). While older generations have significantly fewer deserters of their childhood faith.
Some of the Millennials who actually do consider themselves religious are not so innocent either. The statistics show that their involvement and participation is staggering, but not in a good way. "Seventeen percent of those who trust Christ as Savior and 11% who self-identified as "Christian" read the Bible daily" (Lifeway 11).
