Poseidon


             Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. In dignity he is equal to his brother Zeus, but not in power.
             Son of Cronus and Rhea, Poseidon has five siblings Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Zeus. After Poseidon, with his brothers and sisters, defeated the Titans and dethroned Cronus. Zeus, Hades and Poseidon divided the power of the world. Zeus won the sky, Hades the underworld and Poseidon the sea.
             When Poseidon left the Olympus and came to his kingdom, he immediately built a huge palace under water with a pearls and coral throne. He needed a queen, he chose Thetis, but it was prophesied that any son born to Thetis would be greater than his father. Poseidon then chose Amphitrite.
             Poseidon Roman name is Neptune. Dolphins, tridents and three-pronged fish are some symbols of Poseidon.
             A famous story of Poseidon involves the competition between him and the goddess of war, Athena, for the city of Athens. To win the people of the city over, Poseidon threw a spear at the ground and produced the Spring at the Acropolis. However, Athena won as the result of giving the people of Athens the olive tree. In his anger over the decision, Poseidon flooded the Attic Plain. Eventually, Athena and Poseidon worked together by combining their powers.
             Poseidon used his power of water, earthquakes and horses to inflict fear on people. Though he could be difficult and assert his powers over the gods and mortals. That's about Poseidon. .
