or Record Industry Association of America has announced the filing of lawsuits directed towards individuals who have engaged in file sharing on the Internet. This is a very debated issue among the youth of America and the greedy entertainment industry. Many believe it is wrong to share music, movies, and software using programs on the Internet because it can be looked at as stealing copywritten material. Therefore the corporations and musicians demand that if music or movies are to be downloaded, there should be a price to pay. Others argue that these things should be allowed to be shared and it is wrong to prosecute people for doing so. Although neither opinion can be justified as right, this type of file sharing is now labeled illegal and continuing sharing of songs and whatnot, can led to serious repercussions. I myself believe that file sharing should not be outlawed, because I find it to be a great way to listen to music and I download such things regularly. It looks as though a heated debate on whether sharing copywritten material over the Internet should be allowed, will rage on for time to come.
Many record companies have demanded the payment of royalties to the artists and themselves as nessisity, because not doing so is in a sense stealing. Many prominent artists such as Metallica, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliot, Radiohead and many other major icons have expressed dislike and resentment for "peer to peer" file-sharing. They are not only angry of the fact that there music is being played and listened to without any reimbursement, but also many of there new albums surface on the Internet before they are even released. This can cause a major problem for the artist because they lose much needed mystique and secrecy, as well as the new songs released on the album seem to lose some marketability. Also mass amounts of money are lost as when the CD is downloaded, buying of the album becomes unnecessary.
