The Hitch Hiker

Arthur Dent is about thirty, tall, dark haired and never quite at ease with himself. The thing that use to worry him most is the fact that people always use to ask him what he is looking so worried about.
One thursday morning Arthur wakes up to find that his house is scheduled for demolishing that day to make way for a new bypass. And as if Arthur didn't have enough to deal with, the earth gets demolished a few minutes later to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. Arthur escapes at the very last moment because an old friend of his, Ford Prefect, suddenly turns out to be from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse and not from Guildford as he usually claimed, but more importantly, he knows how to hitch rides on spaceships. All this is more than Arthur can cope with. Sadly, however, the weekend has only just begun, and the Galaxy is a very strange and startling place.
The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy was written in 1979 by Douglas Adams and is the first book in a trilogy of four. Critics all over the world have praised the Hitchhiker trilogy as one of the best book series ever. Douglas Adams is truly an extraordinary author. The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is a funny book, assumed that the reader likes Douglas Adams humor, which I do. I actually found myself laughing out loud many times when reading this book. He has a wierd and special way of saying things. At times, he puts something we are all familiar with, in a whole new perspective. E.i, in this book, Adams reveals that man is only the third most intelligent form of life on earth, next after dolphins and mice. .
What makes the book so funny is mainly the odd things and the strange persons, such as Marvin, the paranoid android.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a book full of humour, and funny remarks on our society, and our way of thinking.
I can with no doubt say that this is the best book I have ever read and I encourage everyone to check it out, even if you don't like science fiction, and if you like it, read the rest of the trilogy which is just what I'm going to do.
