Review of Emma By Jane Austen

I have seen the film Emma based on the book by Jane Austen. I found the film funny and very romantic but of course, I like the genre "costume movies". Are you bored a Sunday afternoon; this is the perfect film to watch. I think it is two messages of the film. The first one is "Don't play a matchmaker just for your own happiness" and the second is an opposite of the first "Don't try to make other couples happy with their love, you can't forget your own love life." When Emma tries to find her friend Harriet a descent husband, she forgets her own love, her friend Mr. Knightly. Emma once said in the film that love is nothing for her. She is a well-respected rich young woman, and rich young women do not have to be married. She thinks that if you are poor, it is disrespectful to not be married. She does not need a man to be respected. I also noticed the different between the rich and the poor from the 1800th century and today. In the film, Mr. Knightly got appalled when Emma offended Miss. Bates, who was poor, in front of the society. Today I do not think any one would have done that. In the past, it seamed that the society had more respect for the poor people than they have today. .
When I saw the film, my heart felt a warm feeling. I like the English landscape in the film, with green hills and widespread meadows. With all the beautiful castles and Ladies with beautiful dresses. I wish I could live in that time for a day or two. I think when the peoples vocabulary included words like thy and thou the English language was very beautiful. It sounded more like a love poem. If you have any clue about Jane Austen's works, you will know that she repeats the same in each of her novels: marriage, marriage and marriage! Gwyneth Paltrow is very good in her leading role. Also the fact that each one of the characters in the movie don't seem to be able to think anything but how to get a good partner and soon married makes the movie hilarious.
