The Christmas Blitz

Ultimately, the shopping malls, the week before Christmas, are a place where the lion comes out of even the quietest people. There is visible chaos, emotion and adrenaline in the entranceway to almost every store, not including the bathroom and food court lines, which seem to be never ending. The Christmas music bombarded with the hollers and constant buzz of people talking and yelling at anyone in sight, or even themselves. The once large walkway around the mall condenses into what seems to be a two-foot tunnel, with about four feet worth of people trying to shove through it. There is no worry, shame, or guilt when one pushes another out of the way to get the last Lego Mania, or Barbie on the Beach toys. When nearing the food court, there is a smothering smell of Chinese, French Fries, and Pizza combined into one, stomach turning stench. .
The toy sores attract what appear to be friendly, calm mothers. Once the "hot item" of the season begins to disappear and there are more mothers than toys, the real madness breaks out. The ones that attempt to be polite end up getting items stolen right out of their cart. Yelling, pushing, shoving: a mad woman race to buy the $150 toy that their child will use for approximately three weeks. .
There are also fathers, husbands, boyfriends, and sons: males in general. They are all walking around totally clueless on Christmas Eve, wondering what to get their wives, girlfriends, sisters, and mothers, hoping they will do a better job than last year because sleeping on the couch for two weeks is not very comfortable. Yet, year after year there are those few husbands that are seen wondering around the tool section in Wal-Mart, wondering if their wives need a new pair of pliers, or the latest Band Saw 3000. Some men, however, know where the key to their special lady's heart is: in the jewellery store. Even then, men count on the experience and opinions of the staff.
