The Effects of the Thrill Seeking Gene

Knowledge and understanding of the thrill seeking gene can prove tremendously advantageous. The personality of thrill seekers is the result of a combination of Nature and Nurture, where the two are not separate elements, but interactive ones. These people are genetically wired to take risks. Just because someone has inherited the thrill gene, does not mean that they are going to jump off a bridge. But the potential is there and the fate of that person is indirectly tied to their environmental surroundings or their nurture. Imagine the disastrous effects that could occur if someone with a thrill-seeking gene is raised in a disarrayed and violent environment. This person may satisfy the need for excitement through drug addiction, sex addiction, alcohol or even rape and murder. Fortunately such incidences can be prevented with knowledge about this fragile gene. However, if a person possessing the novelty-seeking gene was born into a loving and nurturing family with discipline and guidance, he or she would more likely satisfy these needs in a positive manner. By gaining more knowledge about thrill seekers it is possible to channel this craving away from harm and towards the better good. You wouldn't want to necessarily turn off this gene. Further knowledge about this gene will help to develop better treatment for people in whom this genetic trait shows its dark side. Basically, what I"m trying to say, is that under the wrong conditions, all these people have the potential to become.axe murderers. But under the right conditions, they can become charismatic, action-oriented leaders. It's no coincidence that many of the excitable, impulsive, and extravagant types of people in the world rank among our greatest inventors, entrepreneurs and explorers. It is precisely their genetic predisposition towards thrill-seeking and risk-taking that spurs them on to greater heights - and we're not just talking about rock climbers here.
