Rugby and Football

            Two of the most physical sports played in the United States today are football and rugby. You need to use both mentality and aggression to play these games. You need to be in the right mind set to play, meaning that you can't be afraid to hit and tackle other players. They are two similar sports with the exception of players, equipment and rules.
             The players in rugby and football differ drastically. The players in football are more rugged due to their position where as rugby players have no size demands. In football there are different players for each position and no player plays more than one position in a game where as in rugby the positions are moved around constantly. Players in rugby play both defense and offense. All players in rugby should be able to run and to kick where as in football certain people are trained for certain positions. This makes it easier to have substitutes in rugby due to the fact that all players can play all positions where as in football most teams usually only have 3 people to play each position except when they need more than one player for that position on the field at once such as running backs. Some of the similarities in positions though are that they each have a person who kicks the ball. Every player can pass the ball that catches it. You are just less likely to see any player other than the quarterback passing the ball in football. Another similarity in the game is the fact that each player protects the other players by tackling the opposing team.
             In rugby there is very little equipment. All you need is a mouth guard and cleats. In football players need to have helmets, hip pads, thigh pads, tail pads, shoulder pads and knee pads to protect them from other players of different sizes. This also makes playing rugby less expensive by having less equipment. All the padding that football players have to wear helps them take bigger hips without getting injured as often.
