These are lyrics taken from the recent Black Eyed Peas song, "Where is the love. They express a negative view of the media, blaming the media for the problems in today's society.
This verse provides a very sweeping statement for people to agree with, in today's society it is easier to blame the media for the problems of today, than to have to think about alternative reasons. Although the media may have some negative influences, it also provides a number of positive aspects, which often people do not acknowledge.
For many people, different forms of media are used to escape from the stresses of everyday life, programmes such as soaps can be watched without any thought being required. Media can often offer catharsis for those suffering from different illnesses, or bereavement.
Documentaries are often informative, and play a part in educating people from all walks of life on topics not covered in the education system.
Old people these days often live alone, and can feel lonely. With the aid of television they can speculate on other people's lives, and can feel involved in other peoples lives.
Films which include increased amounts of violence and drug use, for example "The Usual Suspects" do not only encourage people to carry out acts of violence but can discourage people from doing so, as they see the consequences of their actions, and just how morally unethical these acts of violence are. .
A large percentage of the population enjoy many hours gossiping about different television programmes and films. It provides the nation with an entertainment source, both while watching these mediums, and the aftermath of discussion.
Some forms of media can prove to be inspiring to different people, for example the band "Coldplay" play all their own instruments, and this may encourage children to learn a new skill such as learning to play the guitar, or piano.
