say how attempting to relive it lead to disaster for Jo how was keeping the secret bad?.
Similarly Jo's desire for her children to return home was a cry out for the past and resulted in conflict with her loved ones. Despite the obvious signs of warning from her husband Daniel, Jo insisted on all three daughters to return home for the holiday:.
"I wanted to get all of the girls home for the holiday. Daniel thought that was probably a mistake, that Cass might want us to herself, and that in any case, all three of them together often led to trouble." (121).
Jo shows her desperation and greed fromor her past family experiences to be relived through these lines. She instructs her three daughters to return home for the holidays without consideration of the feelings toward the plans and expected outcomes of the rest of the people involved feelings toward the plans and expected outcomes. When her daughters show up for their duty to their mother they are not surprised to see that they all live very different lives and, as expected, do not get along as Jo had hoped:.
"There was a long, terrible silence. I could feel Sadie looking nervously from one of us to another. .
Finally Cass stood up. She stretched lazily, an unfolding of long bones. "You should try it sometime, Nora. It adds a certain zing. It ain't boring anyway." She turned at the door and pointed her unlighted cigarette at her twin. "And by the way, remind me, sweetie, never to confide in you again."" (153).
The argument between the daughters was a clear representation of exactly what Daniel had warned Jo about in the first place. It was Jo's yearning for the family connections and relationships that over threwrough her sense of logic and common sense. The girl's attitudes and outlooks on life had been strongly established from when they wereas children and it was ignorant and wishful thinking by Jo for not expecting the disastrous outcome.
