Business in a small town

The business world comes in all shapes and sizes but which kind of business is the best to have. When I think of business I think of these huge money making and economy based companies like the car industries, Wal-Mart, Microsoft, and the Fast Food Industry. But what about all the other businesses out there that are not so big like Paul's Shoe Store, Play It Again Sam's, Andy's, Twigs and Tea Cups, JBK, and a Sears chain. Those businesses are important to but to only the people in the community or ones visiting it. But who is really to say which is better and which is worse.
It took a man by the name of Ed who is a business owner of the local Sears chain in Chestertown that owning and running a small town business is just as important and rewarding as owning a big time business. Ed and his wife worked for Sears in New Jersey for a combined 55 years. He started as a salesman and worked his way to manager. After a long 55 years of work and dedication to Sears Ed and his wife decided to get out of it and retire. They move out of their huge business and city life and move to little old Chestertown. To start a fresh page in they"re lives running a Sears chain store. He knew it was going to be less business but a better and more peaceful life. He liked having that personal relationship with every customer like he can have when he works in a small town. When working at his old Sears you never got to no your customer you were just trying to wine and dine them so they would buy something. So you could make some money because you worked off of a commission based salary. .
When I heard all of this in class I thought to myself I never thought of it from his point of view. He thinks that the small town business is the better way to go your get to become more social with your cliental and you make an impact on the community. If you were in a large suburban area you wouldn't know one person from another if you cant give them a good deal they will go to there biggest competitor.
