The OC versus Smallville

Many of the shows on television these days have similar plot lines, character personalities, and/or problems. Smallville and the O.C., two of this season's "hot" dramas are both situational dramas however, Smallville's main character possesses super natural powers and the O.C. deals with "normal" people.
Smallville is the story of Superman in his teenage years. Almost every detail has been kept the same from the popular 70's movie Superman starring our beloved Christopher Reeves. Clark Kent is stuck in difficult situations where he must save his friends and family from evil without letting anyone find out he is actually an alien from the far off planet of Krypton. Clark has a love interest (Lana Lang) which never seems to work out. There also always seems to be an evil villain trying to sabotage an event or murder someone.
The O.C. is about a teenage boy named Ryan who up until recently lived a .
tough life in Chino, California. Ryan wouldn't disclose information on where his brother had run off to of stealing a car under the influence of drugs. The court wanted to send him to jail as an adult. Fortunately, his court appointed lawyer took Ryan in from the kindness of his heart. Ryan is brought into a wealthy family living in Newport. He is forced to socialize with the spoiled rich kids despite their unwelcome ness. Like Smallville, Ryan has an archnemesis: Luke, as well as a love interest: Marissa Cooper .
"coop" that never seems to work out.
Both of the shows deal with a new drama every week while also having an ongoing plot line. In the O.C., the long running plot line is the relationship between Marissa and Ryan. Both of the characters like each other however, in every episode there is a new obstacle in their quest to become a couple. The long running plot line for Smallville is a little different where as Clark is on a journey to find out where he came from and why he has his powers. In every episode he is given a new piece of information that will eventually lead him to become the superhero we all know and love named Superman.
