Christopher Colombus

Christopher Columbus was a very determined man. If he set his heart on doing something, he would do it, no matter what types of sacrifices he had to make. The best example of this would be the time and energy it took him to get sponsored by a country to sail west-word to find a route to Asia. He tried for the better part of twelve years to get sponsored, and when he finally did, it was worth all of the trials and tribulations he went through. .
During this twelve year period while Columbus was studying and trying to find a sponsor, we learned a lot about him, his goals, motives and his character traits. We come to find out that he is a very religious man, even though his plan was rejected by many experts because it contradicted the church's teachings. The experts also rejected the plan because they thought it was approximately 10,000 miles to Asia, and Columbus insisted that it was only 3,000 miles. Everyone was unaware of the land mass that Columbus would come to discover, which is now America. Nobody thought Columbus could do it, because many people had tried and failed, but Columbus wasn't going to make the same mistakes that the other sailors had made. He was going to sail around the Canary Islands, therefore catching the western winds, also known as the trade winds. So now that he had his route mapped out, the next thing he needed to do was get three ships. After he got those ships, he would sail west-word to reach the east. .
The country that would eventually sponsor him was, as we all should know, was Spain. Queen Isabella basically convinced King Ferdinand to sponsor the voyage because she said that if the voyage was a success, Spain would have much more glory and wealth. Also, she explained that if France were to sponsor Columbus, she wouldn't be able to bear the thought of what could have been for Spain. But before the King and Queen agreed upon sponsoring this voyage, Columbus had many terms of his own.
