Personality Traits Revealed By Salad Dressing Use

According to the Myers-Briggs personality classifications, people are categorized as having either an introverted or extroverted personality. Introverts are the individuals who get their stimulation internally and are generally solitary and shy whereas extroverts seek outside sources for stimulation and therefore are more sociable (Kosslyn 351). In recent studies, the way that people use salad dressing is linked to certain characteristics that would distinguish a person as being either introverted or extroverted. In order to make assumptions about a person's personality type from the way he or she uses salad dressing, one must be grouped into categories. There are three different styles of salad dressing use: "dippers," "toppers," and "mixers" ("Salad Dressing Style Reveals Personality Traits" par. 2-3). The people who fall under each of these categories tend to have similar personality traits and therefore the claim can be made that the way a person uses salad dressing reflects whether he or she has an introverted or extroverted personality.
According to a study performed by Market Facts for the Association for Dressings and Sauces, dippers, people who dip their greens into their salad dressing rate themselves as being more spontaneous and outgoing than mixers or toppers. This can be understood by observing them spontaneously picking different ingredients in the salad to dip into their salad dressing one at a time. Mixers, people who mix their dressing throughout their salad, see themselves as being more sociable than toppers, who simply dump their dressing on top of their greens ("Salad Dressing Style Reveals Personality Traits" par. 2-3). Toppers, however, can be thought of as being more shy than dippers or mixers because they do not arrange their salad dressing in their own unique way, whereas dippers and mixers are not afraid to show their opinion on the style that satisfies them the most.
