Media Analysis (Psychology of Race & Gender)

) What is the race and gender of the lead character(s)? .
             Character Race Gender.
             Shrek Ogre Male.
             Donkey Animal Male.
             Princess Fiona White Female.
             Prince Farquaad White Male.
2.) If there are people of color, are there Hispanic, Native, Asian, Arab people included?.
In a fairytale world they created their own race called Ogres and I would consider this being people of color because it's a different color other than the white race. Whites in society are looked more toward being the dominant group and using a different race such as Ogres it would give them the distinction of what they were trying to discriminate against. Ogres are big and green, live in swamps, use earwax for candle lights, and bathe in mud. . However, in their little fairytale atmosphere Ogres" took the subordinate group such as a black group would in a white society.
3.) If people of color are present, is it just one token surrounded by white actors?.
In the beginning of the movie we are subject to believe that there is only one Ogre and that is Shrek. Shrek himself also believes this as well until Princess Fiona's secret is revealed that she turns into an Ogre by night. Still white being the dominant group in this story the poor old Ogre feels that he is a worthless because of being in the subordinate group. The white society takes one look at Shrek and immediately uses what's called stereotype activation. These negative stereotypes lead subordinate groups to believe them because they have heard them over and over.
4.) How many characters are women of color and how are they portrayed?.
Women of color in this fairytale do not exist until Princess Fiona turns into an Ogre by night and then decides to marry Shrek instead of Prince Farquaad and then she is transformed into an Ogre forever because of a spell.
