The story is about a 16 year old girl who was moving to Washington, to her parrents after she finished her exam. She thought that she looked real grown up when she left her Widnesses but in the airplane she began to feel very young. She met this 40 year old woman named Serena. She did not say much to Serena through the flight because she did not know what to say, and Serena talked almost all the time. Serena kept on pouring champagne in the girls glass and she drank alot of champagne herself. She talked alot about, her beeing in showbuisness and her new job, where she would perform an a stage alone with spotlights on her. The girl was impressed with Serena and eventually she got tired because of the champagne and fell asleep. When she woke up Serena was gone. The girl had to change plane in Chicago and when she got out of the plane she saw a stewerdesse and to men dragging Serena who was passed out, out of the plane. Later the girl found out that Serena was passed out because she had been mixing alcohol and pills. The girl went to tell Serena that she would be ok and she wished her luck with her singing carrer. Than serena opened her eys and said to her "Do you know what a stripper does"? Then the girl realized that Serena was no singer but a stripper.
I think that Serena had had a hard life. Her huspand died in a carcrash. And she works as a stripper to get money. I think she have had a face lift and body surgery just to keep her job as a stripper even though she hate it because she is quite old for a stripper. I think she lives in a dream world where she is a famous singer or actor and the pills and alcohol helps her ascape from the real world and the truth. The reason she starts to talk to the girl is maybe because she envied her her youth or maybe she needed somone to talk to because she felt very alone and needed comfort and security. I think Serena is embaresed with her selv and her work.
