The theory stated the earth had experienced successions of the creation of all life on the planet. Furthermore during some period all the life had been destroyed by a sudden catastrophe event such as a flood or a meteor striking the surface of the earth. The theory further goes on to say that all life was destroyed and only record that was left were there fossilized remains. After the catastrophist event plant and animal life were the created individually and immutable. But the catastrophist theory was challenged by Darwin and other scientist as well. .
             During the journey aboard the Beagle Darwin noted that certain animals and plants alleged to be extinct had remarkable likenesses to other living creature he had observed in the area. On the Galapagos Islands he observed that each island supported its own form of animals in the same family but was different in structure and eating habits from island to island. This observation raised the question of links between distinct but similar species. After his travels Darwin returned to England where he began noting the ideals the changeability of species. His reasoning began to bring into focus how animals evolved. With research from other scientist Darwin began to apply different arguments and can to the up with the theory of evolution through natural selection. .
             The theory of evolution by natural selection simply put is that because of problems within an environment such as food supply and weather conditions the young born to any species has to intensely compete for survival. The young that do survive and produce the next generation of off spring often embody a favorable natural variation which provides an advantage which is his process of natural selection. The Natural Selection Process is then passed on to the next generations and improving the life form with each generation crating a species which adapts to is ever-changing environment.
