Instead, I was able to form a decent thesis to go off of and feel satisfied for at least a few more days.
The ability to write clearly has always been an issue for me. My ideas tend to have a good basis, yet they never really seem to come out well on paper when I try to express them. The common phrase of having "writer's block" is truly how I feel, with the only remedy for this problem being a large process of preparation. Honestly though, I am lazy and the only way I can begin to think about what I have to write is to clear my mind. With the "due date" nearing and my stress rising, I find myself smoking cigarettes more than usual. Not because it's due, but because it nags in the back of my mind and I just want to get it over with. When I sat down and looked at the assignment paper, for Major Paper #2, I realized that I could be doing something else like playing the guitar or going to the gym. Usually this happens a couple times while doing senseless things on the computer, until I realize its time for another cigarette. When I smoke, I don't know why, but I think way deeper than I need to about anything. After a few, I usually feel unmotivated and have my mind thinking about different things like school, relationships, and surfing. I often find that I waste more time thinking about the time and the effort the paper will take to complete, rather then actually working. Depending on the situation I may go to the gym or the beach in order to motivate myself to get my assignment done. Yet, I still find it hard to get myself motivated, so that I can write. .
The best cure to clear my mind and get myself going is to go to the beach and surf. I"m not sure why it helps, but after I get out of the water I feel satisfied and tired, but somehow energized. Playing guitar and cigarettes are also other ways I bypass my laziness. Once my mind is finally in its "writing mode," I find there are a certain amount of steps that I must take in order to write well.
