Cosmetic Dentistry

Many people would like to make their appearance look more attractive. To do so, they might like to change their haircut or wardrobe to have a stylish, new look. Or maybe try having plastic surgery done to lose or add things to their body to have their ideal physique. But a lot of emphasis is put on to the face since it seems to be the area that most people like to notice first. Therefore, people tend to do things that can improve their facial appearance, like wearing colored contacts, removing unwanted facial hair or enhancing their smile. Out of these possibilities, a smile can say a lot about them, so they would want to make it look nice. There are different options to improve the way a smile can look, which may include: orthodontics, whitening, or teeth replacements. .
The biggest reason for any body to have orthodontic appliances, or better known as braces is because of malocclusion. Malocclusion is improperly aligned teeth. Braces can solve most bite problems. Indicated by the American Association of Orthodontists, the common problems include: crowding, protruding upper teeth, deep overbite, open bite, spacing, cross bite and under jet. Treatment results are most often dramatic and take about one to three years. It brings teeth, lips and jaw into proper alignment. Also, people seek orthodontic treatment because crooked or crowded teeth are hard to keep clean, which may lead to tooth decay, tooth loss, or gum disease (American Association of Orthodontics). According to Rebecca D. Williams (11), braces apply gentle pressure to teeth, moving them slowly and as teeth move, the jaw around them grows to fill in spaces left by the tooth roots. Small brackets are bonded to the front teeth while metal bands are used for the back teeth because they are more difficult to move. These brackets are used as devices to attach each tooth to an arch wire and the wire acts as a track to guide teeth along (Williams 11).
