Telvision And Children

What Parents Should Know About The Hazards of Television.
I understand that this day and age time is a luxury that most parents do not have. Many parents are divorced and single and have to assume the role of both mother and father. Even when a child belongs to a two-parent household the cost of living in today's economy is very costly, therefore both parents are sometimes forced to work. Trying to maintain a clean household, attain financial stability, and raise a family are all difficult tasks that parents must try to juggle. I also understand that too keep a child occupied with television allows parents extra time to get one more job done, perhaps gain a few extra minutes to balance the checkbook, or fifteen more minutes to vacuum. However, some parents believe that monitoring the time and the shows their elementary school children watch will prevent their children from being lazy, violent, and sexually aware from the wrong source.
First of all, parents should be aware of that if a child watches an excessive amount of television the child is at risk of being obese and lazy. In the United States the percent of diabetes and obesity among children are rapidly growing. No longer do parents take the time to make a child a nutritious lunch. Nutritious lunches are replaced by ready-made lunches; for example, lunchables, quick snack-pak, Happy Meals, and other more convenient kid's meals. The type of nutrition found in ready-made lunches in addition to six to eight hours of dedication to the television equals a problem. Children are supposed to be active and are suppose to run around and play. A parent's biggest responsibility is to create time for their child and to find a way to instill healthy habits in a Childs development. Many parents might argue that they do not have a yard for their child to play in. My suggestions are to find other alternatives, such as, go to a park, walk around the block and on cold days read a book.
