A Clockwork Orange Response

The book "A Clockwork Orange," is a brilliant book in itself. Not expecting it to be a big hit around the world, Burgess created a masterpiece. He does a great job of putting his own opinions in the book as in my opinion creating a character in the book to support his views. I believe that Burgess was the chaplain in the prison. Through this character he was able to express his feelings and still maintain the reactions that a chaplain would. He express's thoughts on the right to have "choice" and how the "state" should act with the law.
Burgess had many good ideas throughout the book such as "violence makes violence." This concept to me means that if I were to kill a man's family in out of rage or just because, he is going to want to get revenge. Violent acts happened all over the scenes in the book where violence made more violence. Such examples of this would be after Alex got out of the old ladies house and dim hit him across the eyes with his chain. After Alex's "droogs" fled the police showed up and began beating Alex even more. This concept even happens during and after Alex's treatment. A guard comes into Alex's room and starts to taunt and hit him and Alex tries to hit him back but is unable do to the treatment.
Burgess seemed to want the state to take control of the violence, but not in a sense where the state was acting worse then the criminals. The way the police treated criminals never seemed to change throughout the book. Even at the end of the book when Alex is taken out in the woods and beaten up by Dim, who is now a man of the law, and another police officer.
When Alex asks the chaplain about the new treatment the chaplain kind of ignores Alex's question. I think this is where we the readers see Burgess come alive in the book. Burgess really expresses his feelings through this character. It seems to be that Burgess in a way has pity for juveniles tried as an adult and sentenced in an adult prison.
