He goes on to say that everyone will face emotional problems, because each person's personality consists of emotional factors. Man has always been confused with what emotions are (Shibles 1). Emotions are complex because there are so types of emotions. Man does not necessarily know why certain emotions are showed in certain circumstances. For example, what is love? Is love an action, a feeling or is it both? How is love shown or expressed? Love is an emotion, but what is the actuality of love? This is the problem with emotions, because you cannot solve the problem of emotions unless the true meaning of emotions is known.
Philosophers have there own opinion with regards to problem of emotion. One of those philosophers is Plato. Plato was born in 427 B.C. and came from a distinguished family in Athens Greece. He was taught by Socrates, one of the greatest philosophers according to Plato. Plato started a school of philosophy know as the Academy, which is named after Academus who owned the garden where the Academy was established. Plato is know for his theory of the Cave, the platonic doctrine of forms and the Divided line (Sullivan 36).

             With regards to emotions, Plato.
"expressed a sense in which the emotions can be ally of reason, the doctrine that subsequently have had the greatest impact on thinking about.
emotions pertain to his localizing them in the body, which in turn he generally distrusted and even disdained" (Turski 2).
Plato also believes that emotions are what is bestial and animal like in us, which is controlled by the rational soul. This compromises the intellectual function which is located in the head (Turski 2). From this, Plato states that emotions are intellectual and emotions come from the mind. He also says the emotions are controlled by the rational soul. This brings up an interesting question as well. Are emotions controlled? Can a person choose their own emotions or do they occur because of a uncontrolled response that the mind has no control over? According to Plato the rational soul controls emotions.
