Animals need help

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can judged by the way it treats its animals.
Noah's Ark, a humane society, was founded to provide shelter and sanctuary to lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. For many years they quietly went about their mission of rescuing, loving, protecting, and caring for homeless animals. The peace of the shelter was shattered on March 7, 1997, with the break-in and heartless beating of 27 cats at the shelter by two teenagers wielding baseball bats. Seventeen of the beloved cats lost their lives that night while a dozen more were seriously injured. Two local teenagers were later charged and found guilty of the crime (Cat). My aunt heard about the battered cats and went and adopted two of them and they are still doing well today. Due to the low money situation, the Noah's Ark Humane Society could not afford to keep up with security, such as camera's and alarms. Money and abused animals are the main problems that the humane societies have to deal with. .
The purpose of humane societies is to provide humane care for all of the lost, abandoned, and unwanted animals, and find caring responsible homes. The shelter in Davenport receives 500-775 animals each month, about 57% are able to be placed in to homes which means 43% are euthanized (Kitty). "But we keep them as long as they stay healthy and we have room." (Kitty). The animals come to the shelter in many conditions, from being neglected, to abuse, to just being lost. The shelter takes care of the animals by nursing them back to health for adoption. All animals get up to date shots and, for a fee of $5, they can also be neutered/spayed. .
The money problem came about when not enough people were caring about animals to donate, adopt, or take care of the animals they already have, so they end up at the shelter. The Humane Society receives animals and takes care of until they are adopted.
