Mitosis

            
             This is an analysis of onion root cell tips in different phases of the cell cycle. The purpose of this lab is to observe and be able to identify various stages of the mitosis: Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.
             Hypothesis:.
             The interphase would be the most common phase because it's the longest and most cells are new. .
             Materials:.
             The materials used in this lab are as followed: Light microscope, 2 prepared slides of onion root cell tips, pencil, and paper.
             Method:.
             When doing this lab place the onion root cell tip directly under light microscope using high power. Slowly move slide till image appears to be clear. Then the next step determines the phases the chromosomes would be classified in. Do this twice with 2 separate slides. After counting and determining all the chromosomes add up the total number in all phases. Then take the total number and divide by the total number in each phase. This then gives you a percentage for each phase.
             Results:.
             The results followed show the percent of the number of cells in an onion root cell tip. Showing that interphase was the most common and anaphase being the least.
             Discussion.
             The results and lab show how interphase was the most common. I believe this is because most cells are new and starting mitosis. The results also show that anaphase was the least common. I think its because most cells are still new and not dividing yet.
             In doing this lab I noticed that chromosomes are visible in every phase except interphase. I observed that in metaphase and anaphase you see fibers. I also observed that interphase is the only one I saw that had a cell membrane and that there are more cells in interphase rather than cells that are dividing.
             Conclusion:.
             This lab investigated how interphase in fact would be the most common phase in the cell cycle and anaphase the least. This evidence is consistent with the hypothesis made, proving that my hypothesis would be right.
