Megan uses very powerful and overwhelming words and phrases including "slivers of flesh that mingle with our sweat and tears of laughter" and "the weatherboard shacks we call our homes have paint bubbled and stripped off the timber by the sun's relentless rays". These are very significant as they shape the imagery scene. The use of verbs, metaphors, similes and adjectives are used to the full extent.
