Holden Caulfield from J.D. Salenger's Catcher in the Rye and William Forester from the film Finding Forester do just that. The both suffer from the death of a loved one causing isolation. They both have to deal with death, coping with death, and the result of death. .
Holden and Forester have had to deal with the death of a loved one. Holden lost his brother, Allie, at a young age. He has had trouble dealing with change ever since. He was very close to his brother and often keeps some memorabilia to remember him and their memories together. Forester also lost a brother. This was a big change in Holden and Foresters life.
Holden and Forester have trouble coping with their loss. The often turn to alcohol and writing for help. Holden wrote a composition about his brother's baseball mitt to remember him. Forester kept writing book and reading to help him clear out his mind and express his feelings. They cope with their problems in a positive way without hurting others.
As a result of their loss, Holden and Forester turn to isolation. Holden gives up in school and won't call his friends for the fear of being rejected and change. Holden also makes up a life to be accepted and try to avoid change. He thinks everything is phony and is pessimistic. Holden turns to his sister to try to connect him back with the world and he loses some of his fears and is able to communicate with people. Forester locks himself in his apartment losing all connection to the outside world. Jammal, his friend, comes in everyday and helps him cope and tries to reunite him with the world and it works. These were major changes for Holden and Forester.
Holden and Forester go through isolation because of death. They learn the right way to cope with their problems.
