I have lived in Florida most of my life and was concerned about my body's reaction to freezing cold temperatures. I didn't want to carry a lot of luggage and you are only allowed one carry on. I made sure that I had all the necessities as well as a few things I got for the children. I purchased a very large suitcase that had wheels which made packing and travel easier.
I was anxious about going to meet strangers and not only meet them but to live with them. The day started early with my boyfriend taking me to the airport and saying our goodbyes. I was at first sad but then I quickly focused on the excitement of what was ahead. No matter what was ahead it was going to be worth the experience of traveling to a state I had never visited before. When I arrived at the airport in Minneapolis, I looked around but couldn't find a face that looked like the person I had seen in the pictures they had emailed to me. I paced nervously by the luggage pickup area when a man came up, smiled and asked me if I was Jacquelyn. Thank goodness, I thought. After I got my luggage we headed to the R's home which would be my new home away from home and my new job.
My duties as discussed in emails and on the phone were to be mainly taking care of Jordyn. Feeding, changing of her diaper, bathing, playing, putting her down for her nap, waking her up in the morning and whatever needs that arise through out the day. This list increased though after I arrived. They decided to add more to my list of responsibilities. I was to wake the boys up, make sure they get washed, brush their teeth, eat breakfast and start school work since they were home schooled. They also wanted me to help with the chores, make dinner and lunch every other day. I worked 5 days a week and had nights off. .
They were catholic which was new to me. I"m not really religious and never attended a Catholic church. I am a Christian and have attended other Christian denomination churches.
