U.S. Forgein Policy

Africa has great potential and could become very important towards the U. I believe that being a world power, we are not doing enough. Some serious issues why I believe this is, the AIDS/HIVS epidemic, poverty, and the ever-growing problem of lack of education.
Aids is devastating Africa and no country has yet to address the human resources issues raised by the epidemic. A staggering 24.5 million people in sub-Saharan Africa in 1999 were living with HIV, Nearly 19 million have died from AIDS, 3.8 million of them children under the age of 15. This estimated figure came from a report, published in June 2000 by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. This is the most severe region in the world, where 1 in 5 adults are affected.
My second issue is the vast amounts of poverty throughout the African continent. According to the video, Faces and Voices Children of Uganda, families make $5 per week and live on an aver. annual income of $7200. With the AIDS epidemic on top, millions of children are orphaned, leaving a heavy burden on society. .
Finally my last reason why we are not doing enough is the lack of education of the peoples. African children are the future of their continent. Their education is key to future economic growth, leading to greater stability and improved standards of living. The current state of education in Africa is plagued by a lack of funds, teachers, textbooks, and inadequate supplies. According to the video, Faces and Voices Children of Uganda, 50% of the people of Uganda are illiterate, and ½ do not have access to schools.
