The Ever Changing Earth and why we should start packing now

(Note, this is paper is loosely based on in class notes and movies).
The world is a beautiful place; no one can disagree with that. From the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas to the tropical wilderness of the Amazon, our planet is an ever-changing environment that should be preserved with the utmost of care. However, too often the news is peppered with the stories of pseudo hippies hugging trees and laying their bodies down in the face of bulldozers to protect the Earth from the ravages of man. Are these people serious? If anything, they should be worried that the Earth is going to eat them up! .
A very intelligent man once said, "The planet has been through a lot worse than us. It's been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drifts, sun spots, solar flares, the magnetic reversal of the poles, fires, worldwide floods, hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids, tidal waves, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages .and we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference?- (George Carlin). While put to a comedic use, Mr. Carlin is completely correct. The human species is a nave group of animals that seem to have it all backwards. We are so paranoid about some carbon monoxide exhausted by a factory in New Jersey that we forgot that one large volcanic eruption could cover the earth with a thin layer of dust. Or what about the 300 people that just died in Morocco buried under the rubble of their houses? Or the devastating earthquake in Iran a few weeks ago. How's the planet doing? Please, what a joke humans are. And it gets worse if you live in the United States.
When this country isn't worrying about terrorists or E. Coli, or Mad Cow, or Russia's nearly four thousand nuclear weapons that are still unaccounted for, we worry about our environment; our little living space. Ever notice how someone moves next to Newark Airport and then complains about the noise? The airport has been there since 1918! Get used to it! That little example shows you just how ridiculous people are.
