            How does the Trailer for "Mission Impossible Two" promote the film and portray the genre?.
             The purpose of a film trailer is to promote a film and to try and to portray the film genre to a certain audience to try and get them interested. Film trailers target specific audiences through their film genres. The importance of a film genre is that it shows what type of film it is. The genre is established through codes and conventions. Codes and conventions are the accepted way of doing things in a particular genre. An example of a code and convention is in a action film you would have a big muscular ladies man for the main character because a wimpy man wouldn't look right and the muscular man is a use of a code and convention.
             Trailers are important because they promote a film and if there weren't trailers then the film wouldn't get promoted and not as many people would come to watch it than it would of if it had been promoted. To be successful film trailers need to promote the genre of the film. They need to promote the high profile actors/actresses of the film. They should also show clips of the movie and show what the storyline is. Other forms of promotions are flyers, posters, leaflets, merchandise, billboards and the internet.
             The trailer establishes the genre through codes and conventions. If they wanted to show that the movie has lots of special effects then they would use codes and conventions like car chases and hi-tech gadgets. If they wanted to show that the movie is a dangerous one with risks then they would do car chases or shoot em ups to try and show this because these are classed as high intensity, dangerous scenes. In the trailer they show a lady. This is a code and convention of a action film. This is because in most action movies the main man normally has a love interest that is female and this lady shown in the trailer will be the love interest of Tom Cruise. They also show an old wise man in the trailer.
