Portland art exhibit review

I went to Portland to view pieces at a gallery called Jazz. The first piece I looked at was a slab pot that was made out of a very rough kind of clay which was very similar to the previous piece I mentioned. This piece was slab with coils running up the sides (sort of diagonally) and it had a lid that was shaped to match the rest of the pot (including the coils running up the side of the piece). The lid seemed to fit seamlessly. The base of this pot seemed to be possibly two separate pieces that were connected together at a center point where the coils stopped (towards the middle of the piece). I liked the detail of the work especially the exceptional lid on this piece.
An interesting piece I saw at this gallery was done by Margaret Barossa. This piece looked as though it could have been three different pieces that were put together. These three pieces consisted of a bottom part that looked to be a long bell shape approximately 8 inches tall which was connected to what looked to be either a slab plate which was in turn connected by the top piece. Both the top and bottom pieces appeared to be wheel thrown. The entire piece was a brown color with hints of an almost metallic bronze finish and it had splotches of brown and rose colors on the lip of the top. The inside of the top piece and bottom pieces were not connected on the inside, and both the inside of the bottom and the top were an off white color. Overall I found the fusion of these shapes to be appealing.
I viewed two pieces that were very similar with the exception of some minor cosmetic differences in the design of a wheel thrown pot that was part of the piece. In one case the wheel thrown pot flared out at the top and was several inches shorter. On the other wheel thrown pot the flaring had been cut away to just leave a lip. Next to the wheel thrown pots were some slab pots that had six sides and the top looked like a wheel thrown bowl had the bottom cut away and was warped and sort of bending down.
