Declinining Signifigance of Race

How did the significance of race decline? That is a question that Wilson based his whole book on. In this paper I will specify what Wilson's basic argument is, what sources he identifies as the cause of racial transformation in the U.S, and other things such as why should race and class be examined together. I will also be addressing whether or not he defines class or race. Finally, I will put in my own opinion on his argument.
Over the years, the African American people have suffered from racial oppression. There have always been barriers put up for them to hold them back from living up to the American dream. Many things have changed over time, for example the whole significance of race. We have overlooked the whole significance and focused instead on the economic class position. Who you are and what you do can affect your economic position in society.
Wilson states many ideas in his first chapter but he points out that his basic argument is that different orders of production inflict constraints on the way racial groups interact in the U.S. He mentions that there have always been barriers for all the black people but recently new ones have been put up to create hardships for only the black underclass. With all this going on there is no doubt why the black underclass are in a hopeless state of economic deflation.
There are three stages of American race relations. The first is the pre-industrial, next is the industrial and finally modern industrialization. All of these stages embody a different form of racial stratification structured by the particular arrangement of both the economy and the country. Wilson's argument has a lot to do with the three stages. He explains that the pre-industrial and the industrial have to do with race relations. The modern industrial on the other hand has more to do with class. .
There has and will always be some form of segregation and discrimination. It has always been this way for the black people.
