When people envision the future, people imagine a world of peace, a society of tolerance, and a civilization of social consciousness. But, for this vision to become a practical reality, pluralism must be built into the heart of society. And although plurality can be a factor toward cultural humanism, by what means can this vision be attained? The answer lies in ambassadorship. .
In a continuously globalizing world, bridges must be constructed to encourage cultural and economic exchanges between industrialized and developing countries; and with pluralism as the goal, Arabic and English will be two of the languages that foster a step toward this civilization of social consciousness.
By studying at the Arabic Language Institute, Arabic will be a means through which I can construct this bridge of social consciousness. And as an American - Muslim, it is my privileged duty to be an ambassador of the East and West. Ideas of Eastern culture and Muslim ritual must be understood in the West; while, aspects of Western economics should be considered in the East. By being the intermediary, the Arabic Language Institute will provide me with an opportunity to learn Arabic through world-renown scholars; it will present a chance to engage in local cultural affairs; and it will provide a chance to visit the breath-taking sites of ancient Egyptian and Muslim civilizations. And in completion of my study at the Arabic Language Institute, a small but crucial step will be fulfilled toward this vision of plurality in an ever-increasingly global world. .
