Blindfold Essay

My blindfold experience starts out on a beautiful Monday afternoon. It has to be at least seventy degrees outside. After discussion with my partner Ninh Bui, he finally decides to take the journey first. He places his brightly colored pink bandana with gold trim over his eyes. I wonder what he is thinking as he stands there waiting for our journey to begin? I am not too fond of the idea of being someone's guide. It's too much of a responsibility. After all, I am guiding someone whom I know nothing about. I wonder how he feels having a stranger guiding him?.
I remember doing similar project last year in my English class with Mrs. DelBourgo. For our assignment we had to walk around the campus without speaking to anyone. That assignment was a breeze for me because I don't really know anyone at this school. Also, I"m not much of a talker, I like to sit and observe things rather than act on them right away.
It's my turn now, and it came rather quickly. As the blindfold is being place over my eyes a sense of excitement fell over me. I kind of feel cheated because I already know what to expect. Maybe I should have gone first so I could have a better experience.
As we are beginning to walk across the foot bridge, I can feel the hot sun beaming down on my back. I didn't really realize how hot it was, until now. The traffic from the freeway seems to be closer as Ninh Bui carefully guides me along. I can feel the loose gravel under my feet and the smell grass and trees seem more potent now that one of my senses has been taken away.
As we walk pass the tennis courts Ninh Bui tells me that I need to dodge the bird poop and dips in the asphalt. No matter how hard I try, I can not walk in a straight line. I keep veering off to the right into the grass. Walking in a straight line just isn't an option for me.
The cool shade from the trees is giving me temporary relief from the sun as the breeze flirts with the leaves.
