Hamlet as a Multifaceted Character

He is strangely silent and stares at Ophelia without speaking a word. "Long he stayed so; / At last, a little shaking of mine arm, / And thrice his head thus waving up and down," (II, i, __) Ophelia is shocked at the behavior she sees in Hamlet and begins to think there is something wrong with his anxious state. Hamlet's tense characteristics cause him to act in peculiar ways, influencing the worried perceptions that people had of him.
Hamlet was cerebral in that he tended to over think his actions. He was a procrastinator and contrasted deeply with the other characters in the story. He did not take action when flawless situations were given directly to him and always tried to think of better and less harmless ways of getting revenge. "That would be scann"d; / A villain kills my father, and for that / I, his sole son, do this same villain send / To heaven." (III, iii, __) Hamlet decides against killing the King while in prayer for he thinks it will mean more to him and his father if he is killed while in the midst of a bad deed for example, arguing or drinking. He is given the perfect set-up, yet does not take the opportunity. Over thinking his actions also gave the King and Laertes, Polonius" son, enough time to plan revenge against Hamlet. "So you shall; / And where it is, let the great axe fall. / I pray you, go with me," (IV, vii, __) The King and Laertes decide to have a sword fight against Hamlet, in which he will either be poisoned with the tip of Laertes" sword, or by drinking the poison in a drink that will be made for him. Hamlet's analytical characteristics cause him to procrastinate and allow time for his own murder to be planned.
Hamlet was shown to be magnanimous in the story in that he was a noble, generous and highly recognized man. This was shown through the other characters" actions towards Hamlet. Being a fair person, he was not convinced at first that the King was indeed guilty of his father's murder.
