Julius Caesar (FRIENDSHIP OR MANIPULATION?)


             Friendship is usually mistaken or misunderstood by people. Some people use friendship to manipulate their friends and get things they want. Many times the person being used does not even notice. Shakespeare's Julius Caesar is one of the most famous plays ever. It is a story about all the conflicts that came along after the murder of the famous Roman emperor Julius Caesar. Whether to do good or bad is the main conflict. Friendship and flattery are used as a mask for manipulation and betrayal.
             Julius Caesar is the character on which the story is based on. Caesar is a Roman general and statesman. He is assassinated by a group of conspirators led by Brutus and Cassius. "As commentators have pointed out, Julius Caesar is one of the most eminent figures in Western military and political history." (galenet.gale.com 1) .
             Mark Antony (Marcus Antonius) is a professional soldier and public official. After Caesar's death he formed an alliance with Octavius and Lepidus to govern Rome as a triumvirate. In 44 B.C., this alliance defeated the forces of Brutus and Cassius at the battle of Philippi. (galenet.gale.com).
             Marcus Brutus is a Roman nobleman and member of the Republic's most illustrious families. He takes a prominent role in the conspiracy against Caesar, his close friend. After the assassination, he flees to Rome and, with Cassius, raises an army against the triumvirate of Mark Antony, Octavius Caesar and Lepidus. Defeated at Philippi, Brutus runs in his sword and dies. (galenet.gale.com.).
             Discussions of Brutus revolve around a variety of topics: his idealism and devotion to the principle of republicanism; his judgment of political issues; his motives in joining the conspiracy; and his stature as a tragic hero. (galenet.gale.com) .
             The story begins when Caesar returns to Rome after defeating Pompey. Caesar acquired a lot of fame and therefore much power in the Roman kingdom. Some politicians dislike the idea.
