Ebony (Name Essay)

According to books my name (Ebony) means black. Yet, to my family my name means a lot more that a color. For example, as acknowledged by my mother, the older I become the more I learn about black history and understand where my name has truly originated from. Also as avowed by my sister Nichole, the personality of me (Ebony) is happy, joyful, and yet, adamant to one's mind, thoughts, and feelings. Therefore, Ebony may be more than what one perceives it to be (A Name). .
With all of this in mind, I feel that my name is a lot more than just a name. It is a description of my personality, a depiction of who I truly am. The word/name Ebony should be described as a true friend, a caring person, and a loyal dependant. Ebony is not only me, but it is someone's best friend, the light that brightens someone's day, and the smile that appears on a person's face. Ebony is not just my name, it has grown upon me. It means more to me than anyone can say it means to them. To me, my name means a successful person, one who is outgoing, one who shall never give up, and most of all it means thou who strives for the best. Furthermore, my name is me, and I have grown to become my name. .
Though, those are examples of what my names means, the thing that really matter is the importance and the extreme significance of it. My name is important to me because even though there are many people with it they don't have the same background and reasons for having it. Ebony is a well known name and behind each one there is a story or some type of truth that lies behind it, mine is black history and I am glad to have that as a component of me. The importance of my name is not only in me, it also lies in the eyes, minds, and hearts of my family and friends. It is important to my family because I learn more about my name and myself everyday. They watch me as well as my name grow into a fairly successful young woman and that is what matters most.
