Vietnam landmines


            
             Nguyen Thi Hang was doing her daily chores when she lost her right foot. As she was milking the cows, she saw a slight rise in the ground. And even though her brother screamed "Don't step there!" But it was too late! WHOOMP! Her left leg was jammed upward. Her face plowed into the mud-covered ground. Dazed, she rolled over on her back. Nguyen then sat up and saw her mangled foot against her shin. This is just one of the many sad stories about the devastation that landmines have caused. The landmines left over from the Vietnam War has killed and injured many people but there are worldwide programs helping pay for injuries, for detonation, and landmine awareness. .
             Most of Vietnam is below the poverty level. As a result of this, people try to detonate landmines themselves to try and earn some money to feed their families. While people are doing this, they become innocent victims of landmines. .
             As people become victims to landmines, they become a heavy burden on their families. This is because their families can't afford the expensive medical treatment they need and they don't get the money that the injured people makes. Luckily, worldwide organizations have programs for landmine victims that help pay for medical treatment and give the injured jobs.
             Popular TV shows and celebrities are educating people about landmine awareness. These people are doing this because that's how they get money for medical treatment. The way this works is that popular celebrities like Angelina Jolie are the stars of charity balls and dinners organizations have to raise money and then people pay a lo of money to enter the ball and a percentage of this goes back to the organization which helps the victims.
             A treaty called the "Ban Landmine Treaty" has been introduced recently to the public. This treaty is a treaty that has countries listed on it that ban landmines being produced and used in that country.
