Manya - A Theatrical Production of the life of Madame Curie

            The lecture was on the subject of the living history of a well known figure, Madame Marie Curie. The lecture was performed as a play with one person as the cast.
             The actress played the role of Madame Curie. She played the part well and seemed perfect for the role. The characteristic that impressed me the most was the fact that the actress spoke with a Polish accent. Another characteristic was that not only did she speak with the accent but she also used some words in French and in Russian as well. .
             The actresses physical appearance looked like she really was living in the time period that the play was taking place in. She was dressed well for the part. Using very bland and boring black clothing also made her fit the part. Another feature to influence the time period was the use of authentic looking props. The combination of the actress's characteristics and the entire stage set an excellent ambience for the play.
             The actress had obviously done her research on the role and it showed. This gave the performance an authentic prospective. The play made me feel as if I had become very knowledgeable of Madame Curie's life as well as living it. .
             I also found myself learning some interesting facts about science. For instance, learning how radium was found, the fact that she had helped a great deal with the x-ray machine. Another interesting fact was how she had thought of radiation to cure or kill off bad cells. Ironically, Madame Curie ends up passing away from radiation poisoning. .
             .
             Overall the actress had taught a great deal of information in a short amount of time. She established the importance of Madame Curie's contribution to the scientific community as well as her contribution to our society. This has been my first experience with a lecture performed in this manner. I would be interested in seeing more productions like this for the simple fact that I can learn easier this way.
