does Plato

Plato's Republic, a book that has the aim of explaining how an ideal state and ideal society should be, the first work which mentions about these two subjects. While Plato is explaining his ideal state, he describes some features that will make it up. These features also are still problems of the societies of our present time and there are ongoing arguments on most of them. This paper aims to critisize two of these crucial features which are women and men equality and the division of people in a society. Ã"t may be considered that the way Socrates percieves the equality of the two genders is a positive feature however the way he divides people in a society cannot be approved.
In Plato's Republic, there is an argument about whether men and women should do the same things because they both are able to. He states that " if it's apparent that they differ only in this respect which that the females bear children while men beget them,we'll say that there has been no kind of proof that women are different from men with respect to what we're talking about, we'll continue to believe that our guardians and their wives must have the same way of life- (p.128,454e). First of all,I believe that, to be able to do something, human beings regardless of their sexes need talent, interest and opportunity. If women and men, both will be trained and educated in the same way which is giving them the same opportunity, and if they have talent and interest , they will both be able to do anything they want to do. Secondly, as I agree with Socrates, talent is in the nature of a human being and it is distributed equally in both creatures. In the book Socrates declares that " but the various natures are distributed in the same way in both creatures. Women share by nature Þn every way of life just as men do- (p. 129,455d) meaning women and men may have the same talent about the same thing or they both may not have the talent.
