More F's will help education

The quality of education is falling all across the country. It could be due to the teachers, but it might also be the students that are at fault. Many ideas on why education in our schools is going downhill have been discussed, but none fully accepted. In his article "What Our Education System Needs is More F's," Carl Singleton incorrectly states that giving out more failing grades will solve the problems within our education system.
Singleton's article states that his solution to the problem of the education system is giving more F's. Singleton repeatedly says that they shall be given only to the students who have not learned the required material. He feels that neither getting back to the basics, nor giving the teachers higher salaries will do anything to solve the current problem. Singleton also stated that the immense distribution of failing grades would "immediately force into the open every major issue related to the inadequacies of American education." He does not claim that this will solve all the problems, but argues that "unless and until we start failing those students who should be failed, other suggested solutions will make little progress toward improving education.".
The value of education has been a much talked about topic lately. Historically grades have been given for the amount of effort put into something, or the lack there of. My mom has been a teacher her whole life so I have heard many proposed ideas about the school system throughout the years. People have argued that things such as school uniforms and smaller class sizes will make the education process more appropriate, yet none of these ideas have yielded solid results. The world today is a much different place to learn than it was 20 years ago, and people need to take this into account when questioning the system. .
Singleton's view of the problem is out of proportion. The problem is much larger than he has perceived.
