Civil Rights campaigners were able to achieve success in the years 1956 to 1968 because of the methods and procedures used by the campaigners. It was time for change, there were wars against communism, and black African states began to be independent. The Civil Rights campaigns and methods of protest were ideal at this time, because of post war disappointment as Americans were displeased with the governments decisions, therefore it was easier to oppose the governments actions, and accuse them of wrong doing, regarding both National and International relations. Contributions to the achieved success of the Civil Rights campaigners were enriched by these methods and facts: Martin Luther Kings campaigning methods and non-violent policies, peaceful protest with little violence from protestors in early stages, opposing protestors being viewed as immoral, and black Americans having moral high ground. North Americans felt sympathetic for black southerners. Support from southern senators although only a few. And finally in the latter years: the sense of black pride.

Martin Luther King fueled protestors with great speeches and encouraged them to protest with out the use of violence. During the early stages of the civil right campaign, protestors greeted this policy of non-violence but this was bound to change in the latter years as a new generation who eagerly anticipated change from old customs, began to protest.
