Medicinal Marijuana: The Truth Behind the Lies

He simply stated that marijuana is illegal for a reason and it should stay that way. But the research which was performed and regurgitated to him was very surprising to him at the time, despite him being a heart doctor. Here is what I found. .
The most generalized question had to be asked, which is what do you think the negative effects of marijuana are? He simply stated all of the untrue statements such as, "it kills brain cells, there are many overdoses, which lead to many deaths, etc." He seemed to have a very negative view on marijuana in general. But I had some things of my own to say which had him completely speechless. There are many myths surrounding marijuana, and they are no more than that, myths. Firstly, the myth of marijuana overdoses. "No evidence exists that anyone has ever died of a marijuana overdoses". While there are many alcohol overdoses each year, nearly 5,000, and an average of 17,000 alcohol related deaths, such as car accidents, alcohol remains a legal substance. Another popular myth is that marijuana kills brain cells. " it stimulates certain brain receptors, but it does not produce toxins that kill them". Also, marijuana does not impair short-term memory. The only time short-term memory is impaired is during intoxication. It has also been popularized that marijuana today is more potent than it was in the past. This claim however is also false. When scientists were researching the THC content of seized marijuana, it was stored very poorly which caused the THC potency to deteriorate. .
Then I proceeded to ask Dr. Coleman about what he thinks about our schools teaching about marijuana. What he said was very true and very false. He started to say that it is a great thing for the schools to be teaching the kids about marijuana since it is a very deadly drug. He also said that organizations such as D.A.R.E. are also good because they teach about every aspect of drugs and how they are horrible for you and your body.
