Reflections and Commentary on Oedipus Rex

In Evaluating the Play Oedipus Rex three important elements we must consider are the following.

Oedipus - is the principle character in the tragedy Oedipus Rex.
He has become the king before the play begins.
In retrospect, you as the observer, discover that Oedipus is a very clever man, and that he saved the city from its imprisonment of a supernatural being called the Spinx, by solving a riddle.
Although he is wise .he is just as stupid. This is proven, when the obvious stares him in the face, and he chooses to ignore/deny/ and even tries to refute it rather than face its reality.
For the most part of the play, He doesn't know himself at all, neither his parents" names nor his own unnatural crimes.
             Who killed King Larius?.
Oedipus , the main character of the play is confronted with the element of a prophecy concerning his fate, being one of which is too difficult for him to face. .
Oedipus is determined to change fate and the manifestation of the prophecy that he would have him kill his father and marry his mother, so he flees the city (and the people who he thinks are his biological parents.) where he was raised. .
On his journey, he kills his biological father, not knowing who he was, and proceeds to marry Jocasta, his biological mother. .
             .
             .
Determine to what emotional effect the tragic discovery of Oedipus has on you .
The effect the discovery of Oedipus and the climax of the Play had on me, was one of pity and grievous sorrow, at man and his struggles in life. .
Even when the motivations of the heart are pure and with good intention Life has a way of getting "it's way" regardless. .
So what is a man to do? there are forces set forth that are supernatural, and of which we have little or no control over. .
These forces can determine your destiny and the circumstances of your existence .it sucks but such is life so you make of it what you can and you go on. .
It is sad that he and many of the other characters in the play chose to deal with "fate" in the ways in which they did.
