100 years of solitude

" Races condemned to 100 years of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth." These powerful last words of the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude speak truth. The book has demonstrated through powerful examples that human beings cannot exist within a state of isolation. People need other people, and are interdependently bound to each other order for to survive, and live happily.
There are explicit examples of this ideology within the life-span of Macondo and the Buendia family; attributing to both an emotional and physical solitude. Marquez brilliant displays this individualy, romantically, and geographically. Many times it seems to be the intent of the character, or the final goal for them to be alone; as shown by Erendira flight away from her encampment after her grandmother"s death. Her destiny, much like Macondo, was to be alone, and forgotton.
The novel begins with geographic isolation. Jose Arcadio Buendia shouts, "God damn it! Macondo is surrounded by water on all sides!" Whether it is, in truth, an island is irrelevant. The town believed itself to be cut off from the rest of the world; despite the ongoing visitation of the gypsy tribes. In addition, Jose Arcadio Buendia and Ursula continue to in a pursuit for "solitude." The founding of Macondo was a result of escaping Jose Arcadio Buendia's murder of Prudencio Aguilar. Aguilar's ghost haunted them, which had eventually forcing them to retreat. .
The family seems to remain very involved within itself. Which stems from deeply rooted Spanish culture. In Spanish-speaking countries, it is not uncommon to find many generations of the same family living in one house. The Buendia house always has various relatives within it. Yet, this is not the only explanation. The incest of the family is a theme throughout the novel, and contributes to be a significant factor in the isolation of this family. If a family rarely turns to others to branch out, it eventually becomes completely turned in upon itself: eventually it becomes detached and isolated .
