Aenied vs. Braveheart

Aenied was the kind of hero that was introspective and plagued with self doubt. He hated war making him ironically not Homeric at all. He was basically the perfect Roman citizen who served the state even at the cost of his own desires. His destiny in the play was to impose peace and order in his country; but this was a hard and lonely task. I feel that his destiny became known in two parts of the play. First in Book 8, when he declared peace. He makes it known that his initial destiny is peace. He does not want war at all. His final destiny is known in Book 12 when he has to kill Turnus to fulfill the destiny of Rome. He really did not want to kill Turnus, but was forced to. Aenied had to sacrifice his personal desires in service of the destiny of Rome including: wanting to die at Troy, staying with Dido, and sparing Turnus.
William Wallace was a peaceful farmer who got his loved one taken away from him by the English. He was a very peaceful man, but had to seek revenge. He became a warrior leader who sought freedom of his Scottish followers. His initial destiny was to seek revenge against the English because they killed Murron. Once he did that, he gained followers who wanted freedom from the English His and admired Wallace's courage. His final destiny became freeing the his fellow Scottish people. His final destiny became known when he said, "They can take our women, but they cannot take our freedom!" .
This made it known he was fighting for freedom. He sacrificed not only his own life, but his fellow people's lives as well.
The message of Aeneid seemed to be the hatred of civil war, and actually any kind of war for that matter. Although it also makes the statement that things must be done for the benefit of the country, even if the answer is war. The story of Aeneid says that war is not a good thing, it should be a last resort, but if it is necessary for the good of the country, it has to happen.
