In Defence of prejudce

With this right comes the racism and prejudice against homosexuals and other minorities. A pluralist would want words to be a substitute for violence. With this pointed out, Rauch explains that "the vocabulary of hate is potentially as rich as [a] dictionary, and all [one does] by banning language used by cretins is to let them decide what the rest of us may say ". The writer suggests that the best way to deal with the prejudices is to ignore and marginalize people that express those biases, but let them exist. .
Furthermore, the author gives us examples of great scientists that have had big contributions to the general progress even though they had their own biases. He shows very clear that these biases didn't interfere with the discoveries, but actually contributed to the overall success and evolution. His opinion is more developed by other powerful arguments in the favor of the intellectual pluralism. In a modern society the pluralism is the tool used to protect the minorities because" intellectual pluralism substitutes a radically different doctrine: we kill our mistakes rather than each other." Rauch argues that many social policies that are intended to benefit minority groups are actually dangerous free-speech infractions. Even though he is a Jew homosexual, he uses other arguments to demonstrate his point of view .The author believes that the principle of pluralism protects all minorities and that "the genius of intellectual pluralism lies not in doing away with prejudices and dogmas, but in channeling them- making them socially productive by pitting prejudice against prejudice and dogma against dogma, exposing all to withering public criticism. What survives at the end of the day is our base of knowledge".
While today's society aims to completely eliminate any form of prejudice, Rauch feels that prejudice plays a significant and important role in the world. He thinks that it is ridiculous and impossible to think that a prejudice attitude and discriminating actions can be completely eradicated.
