To one person, a hero might be the guy who has the most home runs of the baseball season, or the man who runs into the burning building to save the infant. To me a hero is some one who is brave, who has a positive effect on someone else. I instantaneously chose my friend's little brother Dave. As an ordinary hero he embodies the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. because he uses his bravery to overcome the odds against him, he never gets depressed by small problems and he is very friendly.
To get more in depth and have a better understanding of him, you must know that he is handicapped. Dave has Down syndrome. He is very smart, but yet at the grade level of a first grader. .
Each day is a wonderful day for him, and how he starts it is quite interesting, always happy and never gloomy. There is no such thing as the wrong side of the bed with him. While most people hold things against others such as previous fights or mistakes, just give Davy a cup of Vanilla ice cream and all is forgotten. Why let minor problems ruin your day? Another good quality that Dave has is that he is friends with everyone. He doesn't have even one enemy nor do I think he ever will. He just keeps smiling, shaking hands, and carries on each day as if it was the best day he had ever had. Everywhere he goes he has somebody saying, "Hey Dave!" Being able to be good friends with many different people is impossible to some but easy for him.
He is the bravest kid I know, going out into the cruel world each day only to have to tolerate people who pick on him for who he is. It only makes me sick the days that he will come off the bus crying because some ignoramus finds it funny and entertaining to call him names and put him down. David has not done anything to deserve what he has to go through. My bet is that the torment that he goes through each day couldn't be handled by some of this school's "toughest" kids. The fact of the matter is though, we will never know.
