The Art of Sciance

The myths of old became less spectacular, more of a form of entertainment, and as with entertainment, it was not looked on anymore as the explanation of life. It still existed, but was not as desirable as the focus point. We still have these myths today, but they hold no sway over our society. They have become as fairy tales for children, to teach them values we consider to be desirable, to inspire imagination in the younger generation, but this will still be replaced with the modern ideals of the logical world we have conjured up around us.
Stemming from this theory is a second idea about the relationship between myth and philosophy, specifically why philosophy became desirable over myth. While myth held the simple explanations, they could not be touched, handled, or controlled by human hands. We as people have a strong desire to have control over the things around us, which is what has lead to our advancements in the areas of both technology and science. We were not satisfied with the explanations of religious of mythological context, and sought to find new controllable theories. As these theories were proven at least partially true, they were accepted by the minds of the time, which spread them to others. As the ideas gained support, the "old ways", as they could be called, were soon pushed out of the picture. In ancient Greece, this started out as a good thing, as a balanced mix of scientific exploration and inspirational insight lead to many of the great works. Today however, we find that the inspiration of the artist has been smothered in the growth of industry. As we seek mastery over the world around us, one can't help but wonder, have we sacrificed the beauty and wonder of the world for the sake of convenience?.
We consider today, the advancements and explanation given to us by science to be one of our greatest assets. But what cost have we paid for this? For example, take something wonderful and magical to behold, say, a rainbow.
