Joe Montana Report


             Montana was born on June 11, 1956, in Monongahela, Pennsylvania. He played high school football, but was benched because he wanted to play baseball over the summer instead of practicing for football. Joe Montana was playing college at Notre Dame. He sat on the bench his freshmen and sophomore year. He was third string quarterback to Rusty Lisch and Gary Forystek. But in his junior year he came in the game and got the starting job. When he did play he was know for his passing ability and made the best performances while under pressure. That helped to take Notre Dame win a national championship in 1977. .
             His sophomore year at Notre Dame got him a reputation as a come from behind quarterback, as he entered games with his team trailing and rallied the team for a win. (In his NFL years, "The Comeback Kid" would lead 31 fourth quarter comebacks.) However, he did not become the starter until his Junior year when, in the third game of the season, he rallied the team again. They finished that year as National Champions. He continued to lead the Irish his senior year to a good year, but no championship. .
             People still didn't think Joe Montana was going to make the NFL. After the national championship and all the comebacks he lead the Notre Dame Irish to, people still didn't think he was good enough for the NFL. But they were wrong, because in 1979 he was selected by the San Francisco 48ers in the third round. .
             Then he became the starting quarterback in 1980. Two year's later he lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl win against the Cincinnati Bengal's and also got the MVP award. Then he took the 49ers to another Super Bowl in 1985 by beating the Miami Dolphins and once again getting the MVP of the Super Bowl.He The next time the 49ers went to the Super was 1989 and 1990 and they won both times over the Cincinnati Bengal's and the Denver Broncos. Once again Montana won was the MVP of the 1990 game and became the first time winner to win three Super Bowl MVP'S.
